Reviewing the PCB design history

Use the Collaboration command to review the PCB design history between ECAD and MCAD designers during the complete design cycle.

The exchange of data between designers occurs incrementally and iteratively until the design is finalized for manufacturing. The ECAD and MCAD designers review each other's data and identify areas that require modifications or adjustments for their own domain. They collaborate closely to ensure that the electronic and mechanical aspects of the design align. Based on the collaborative review, iterative updates are made by both ECAD and MCAD designers. Changes can include component repositioning, board shape modifications, adjustments to mounting holes, or any other necessary modifications. NX PCB Exchange Connect allows you to review the history of these design changes without opening the CAD file.

The collaboration functionality lets you:

  • Review IDX incremental files that contain incremental changes from the last synchronization as well as the acceptance state of changed items.

  • Review the PCB design history to make informed design changes and enhance collaboration.

  • Manipulate the interactive design history table to highlight important metrics like number of design exchanges, design timeline, or frequent component changes to identify poor collaboration areas. This data helps identify areas for improvements.

  • Locate and reference specific changes and visualize them graphically.

  • Enhance your design exploration using the integrated 2D animation capabilities.

  • Review the designers' comments to understand the reasons behind the design changes.
